Pet owners warned of dog flu risks as beaches open

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago beaches open Friday, but for now, dog owners are being told to leave their pets at home because of dog flu concerns.

Dog flu can easily spread at places where dogs are in close contact, like doggy daycare or dog beaches.

Veterinarians say the number of cases is down, but they do suggest watching dogs with flu symptoms.

Your dog should also avoid close contact with other animals not only this weekend but throughout the summer.
