Gov. Quinn gains support of Chicago-area Latino group

CHICAGO (WLS) -- In the race for governor, a group called "Latinos United for Quinn" came out to show its support.

Members include Congressman Luis Gutierrez and state representative Lisa Hernandez. Some spoke about Quinn's work on behalf of undocumented immigrants and the Affordable Care Act.

"And thanks to Governor Quinn's commitment today more than 650,000 people now have health coverage that did not have it before, 650,000 people," said Cook County Commissioner Jesus Garcia.

Back in June, Quinn's republican challenger Bruce Rauner and his running mate Evelyn Sanguinetti announced the formation of a group called "The Amigos de Rauner-Sanguinetti."

Saturday she shared her thoughts on the governor's record.

"Let me tell you, from an educational standpoint he's defunded education by $500 million," she said. "So the two main things that are important to the Latino community (are) jobs and education and he's woefully failing at both things."

Quinn's campaign says that is not true and that he has increased education funding by $2 billion.

If elected, Sanguinetti would be the first Latina to serve as Illinois lieutenant governor.
