Illinois Republican Senator Mark Kirk calls the Chicago Tribune's endorsement of his opponent a "sucker punch."

The Tribune endorsed Democratic Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth saying that after his 2012 stroke, Kirk could no longer 'perform to the fullest' his job as a U.S. senator.

"Last I checked they hadn't gone to medical school. The people on the ed. board didn't understand what they were talking about," Kirk said.

Kirk's Democratic challenger Tammy Duckworth campaigned this weekend in East Peoria.

Kirk and Duckworth will face off in a senate debate on ABC7 on Nov. 4. The debate will air live on ABC7Chicago.com and on digital channel 7.2 at 7 p.m. and then on TV at ABC7 following the 10 p.m. news.
