President Obama to address Springfield on state budget impasse

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WLS) -- President Barack Obama is coming to Springfield, Ill., on Wednesday to help spur a deal over the state budget crisis.

The president is visiting on the same date he announced his candidacy in 2007.

On Saturday, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, was in Chicago to speak at a U.S. citizenship workshop.

Durbin said he will join the president in Springfield.

"This is an amazing opportunity to remember nine years ago when Barack Obama, U.S. senator, announced his presidency, that he was running for the presidency, in Springfield, Ill. I was honored that he let me introduce him that day, and I'm looking forward to being with him when he returns this week," Durbin said.

A White House official said President Obama looks forward to addressing the Illinois General Assembly about what can be done to build better politics.
