CHICAGO (WLS) -- Gov. Pat Quinn's campaign says a bankruptcy trial underway in Florida raises new questions about Republican challenger Bruce Rauner.

Quinn's running mate Paul Vallas briefed West Side seniors on the case.

A federal judge in Tampa will decide if the investment firm Rauner headed used unlawful means to avoid paying damages for shoddy care and wrongful deaths in the nursing homes it controlled.

"Now we see that this was somebody who was involved and who was in effect signing documents and in the driver's seat," said Vallas.

Rauner countered, saying, "This is a distraction from a failed Governor. This is a distraction from a failed Governor who is creating diversion away from his failure inside his administration."

Rauner retired in 2012. He is not a defendant in the bankruptcy case that does name GTCR, the company he led for over three decades.
