CHICAO (WLS) -- Chicago-area Muslims are celebrating the end of Ramadan, the most sacred month of the Islamic calendar.

The celebrations along Devon Avenue on the city's North Side included some impromptu fireworks.

Police closed off a section of Devon Avenue to traffic overnight as local Muslims crowded the sidewalks to mark the end of the month long religious observation.

Ramadan began on June 28 and ends Monday, July 28.

Besides fasting from dawn until sunset during Ramadan, Muslims pray and read the Quaran.
