Cupich respectful, courageous and dedicated, Notre Dame president says

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WLS) -- Father John J. Jenkins, who has known Archbishop-Designate Cupich for years, said Cardinal George's successor sees it as his job to reach out to all people in the church and outside the church, and welcome them in.

He "embodies the joy of the gospel," that Pope Francis speaks about, Father Jenkins said.

Cupich speaks his mind, but speaks with respect.

"He wants to turn from acrimonious that is so common in our socity to respectful debate, which we need so much," Jenkins said.
