LA GRANGE PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- ABC 7 Eyewitness News Salutes the men and women who have built the La Grange Park Veterans Memorial.
Jim Zwit, a Vietnam veteran, is part of the committee that has been working on the project for several months. The memorial, which was recently completed, features a plaza area where veterans' families and friends can honor their memory with an engraved brick. Zwit says the memorial currently recognizes veterans from World War II to the current conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
"It doesn't matter whether the veteran served his or her time during one of the conflicts or during peace time," Zwit says. "If you served our country, you are welcome in our memorial."
Zwit has been on a personal mission to honor his comrades who died in a 1971 battle and to reunite those who survived. The memorial is a tribute to all of them and all veterans. As the Memorial's theme reflects, it's about the "Past, Present, Future."
And that's why ABC 7 Eyewitness News Salutes Jim Zwit and the rest of the Veterans Memorial Committee for their hard work, dedication and tenacity to make the memorial happen.
