Stranger buys car for struggling mom
A stranger helped buy a struggling mom a new car to get to work.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Connie Cole was in a situation where she didn't know how much longer she'd be able to provide for her family, and she knew to get out of it, she'd need a car. What she didn't know was where the money for the car would come from: a total stranger.

"I've been praying for a miracle," she told ABC affiliate WLOS.

Little did she know that someone she had never met would literally answer her prayers.

Cole, a single mother of three, had been getting to and from work with rides from her father. When her dad had knee surgery, she wasn't sure where to turn. She called the car dealership to try to work something out.

A man, who has only been identified as David, overheard her conversation with Carolina Auto Sales on the speaker phone. Wesley Gurley, the owner of the shop, recalled what David told him.

"He said, 'If she comes in, call me. I'm gonna pray on this. If the Lord wants me to do something, I may buy her that car,'" Gurley said.

When Cole supplied the down payment for a 2004 Chevy Impala, David made good on his word by giving $2,200 to seal the deal.

"We were pretty shell-shocked over it," Gurley said.

David didn't want to be interviewed, but he did tell WLOS that the philosophy of Christ Community Church in Montreat inspired him to help out.

As for Cole, she is still overwhelmed by the generosity shown to her by a total stranger.

"So emotional," Cole said. "So emotional, it's hard even to get the words out."
