Chicago teen creates 'The I Project'

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A South Shore teenager is making Chicago Proud. Eva Lewis created "The I Project" in 2015 as a way to humanize young people affected by intersectionality. Through her organization, the Walter Payton College Prep senior hopes to give young students better educational opportunities. On May 20, 2017, "The I Project" is hosting a fundraising concert for Bouchet Elementary at the Stony Island Arts Bank. The "Education Emancipation" campaign aims to provide children in Chicago Public Schools elementary schools with equal funding. Through a concert, Go Fund Me, and partnerships with select organizations and corporations, Lewis hopes to raise $25,000 to fulfill Bouchet's goal of a 1:1 student to Chromebook ratio. Additionally, the school has no non-tutoring after-school programs, and students are in need of school supplies and uniforms. All money raised past the $25,000 initial goal, will be used for those efforts. Eva Lewis joined Eyewitness News to talk about the upcoming benefit concert and why it's important for her to give back.
