CHICAGO (WLS) -- New memorial plaques on Chicago's North Side are dedicated in commemoration of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history.

The legacy project added seven bronze plaques to the nearly two dozen along North Halsted street in Lakeview.

Among them are gay American composer Cole Porter and astronaut Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, who was in a longtime relationship with a woman.

The legacy project works to combat anti-gay bullying by celebrating LGBT contributions to history.
