Having to deal with a crying newborn child on an airplane can be stressful for parents and passengers alike. But when one new mother was having trouble trying to keep her child quiet, another passenger had no problem lending a hand to try get the child to calm down.
Earlier this week, Rebekka Garvison and her newborn daughter Rylee were traveling to Atlanta from Chicago to visit her husband. When Rylee started crying, Garvison could immediately tell her seatmates were annoyed.
"I could tell by their body language sitting right next to me that they weren't thrilled about sitting next to Rylee," Garvison wrote in a Facebook post. "Of course I'm already stressing and then Rylee started crying when we were just getting ready to taxi."
Garvison requested to change seats, where she then found herself sitting next to Nyfesha Miller, who was about to help out the stressed mom and her crying daughter in a big way.
"Rylee wouldn't stop crying no matter what I would try and do....so [Miller] asked if I didn't mind if she tried and of course I let her," Garvison said. "As soon as she had her, Rylee was looking out the window and stopped crying. When we got in the air she fell right asleep and slept in her lap the whole flight until we got to our gate."
Garvison expressed her thanks to Miller in a Facebook post, while sharing a photo of her seat mate holding Rylee.
"Nyfesha Miller, you will never understand how happy this act of kindness has made my family. You could've just rolled your eyes and been irritated like everyone else, but you took her and held her the entire flight and let me get some rest and peace of mind," Garvison wrote. " It brought tears to my eyes while I sat there and watched you and Rylee sleeping next to me. I just couldn't believe how that ended up working out and how caring you were to us. Thank you SO much!!"
Garvison's Facebook post quickly went viral, amassing over 87,000 shares since being posted on Sept. 24.
"Wouldn't expect anything other than this from Nyfesha Miller! She's an absolute doll!!" commented one Facebook user.
"I am truly inspired by this post, It's still plenty of awesome people out!!" commented another.
