CHICAGO -- 'Tis the season to acknowledge those who go above and beyond to help others. Windy City LIVE's Random Acts of Kindness highlight those people and hopefully make their day a little brighter.
Eunice Showers told WCL her sister was in need of a surprise. Denise Collier is a nurse that left her job to take care of her ailing parents. Their dad passed away in 2011 and she is now taking care of their mom, who is suffering from dementia. Here's the letter;
"For over 5 years my sister has been the primary caregiver for our parents. Dad passed away in 2011. Mom has dementia. My sister is a nurse, and opted to leave her job to care for our parents. She has two grown children and with limited income, she's made major sacrifices. I'd love to surprise my sister - Denise Collier.
Sincerely,
Eunice Showers"
One of the things she wished for was a food to fill her fridge. We felt Denise is one of many who have the often thankless job of being a caregiver to the elderly. Our friends at ConAgra and Amana agreed.
Food is especially important during the holidays as it helps families gather together. ConAgra and its brands, like Peter Pan Peanut Butter, Hunt's and Marie Callender's, wanted to help WCL surprise Denise by donating $1,000 to stock her fridge and pantry this holiday season.
