Shedd reveals orphaned sea otter pup's new name

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The results are in! The newest sea otter pup at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium now has a name: Ellie.

Previously known as "Pup 719", Ellie was rescued from Carmel Beach in Carmel, Calif. on Jan. 6.

Since arriving at the Shedd in January, she's grown to almost 15 pounds. Officials said heavy storms may have separated Ellie from her mother.

Her name was selected through an online voting contest. Other names in the running were Gilly, Cali, Poppy and Reya.
