Ill. treasurer begins online auction of unclaimed property

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WLS) -- There are 12,600 items of unclaimed property up for auction online from the Illinois Treasurer from March 28 to April 1.

The treasurer's office has more than one million pieces of unclaimed property, but only items that have been unclaimed for 10 years or longer are up for auction. Each item was appraised by an outside vendor.

Auction items include two 1927 St. Gaudens Double Eagle coins, vintage Trifari Crow brooch and football cars of Johnny Unitas, Bart Starr and YA Tittle.

Visit illinoistreasuerer.gov and scroll down to the I-Cash link to see unclaimed property and view the items for auction. The treasurer's office encourages residents to check the I-Cash link every six months as thousands of items are surrendered every year. There is never a fee to search or return unclaimed property.
