Warm Hearts Club makes comforting blankets

CHICAGO (WLS) -- October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Peyton Komer, 8, and her friends are giving comfort to people who need it, one blanket at a time.[br /][br /]Peyton's mother, Bobi Komer, said back in February, her daughter found out her grandfather was going into a nursing home.[br /][br /]"We really wanted to make something special for him from the heart, not a store bought gift," Peyton said.[br /][br /]"She wanted to make something warm for him to enjoy - to comfort him every day," Bobi said.[br /][br /]Peyton decided to make him a blanket. It was such a hit that before long, requests started rolling in. With a little help from her friends, the Warm Hearts Club was born.[br /][Ads /][br /]The club makes blankets for the elderly, the ailing or anyone who needs them. They make the blankets at home, at school and even with family out of town.[br /][br /]"I was glad she asked because once she asked, it was really fun and I wanted to keep doing it!" said Stephanie Czech, a club member.[br /][br /]"We get the blanket and tie them into strips. Then we tie them into double knots," said Delilah Carli, another club member.[br /][br /]"Petyton is a student who has always thought beyond herself, so I have to say I wasn't surprised that she had this big plan and idea and wanted to help," said Elizabeth Rabinak, Peyton's teacher.[br /][br /]The scope expanded to families who lost everything in a fire. This month, the focus is to provide comfort to breast cancer survivors.[br /][br /]"I know there are people out there who could use something when they have their treatments, possibly they get cold, I know they do," Bobi said.[br /][br /]They set up a Facebook page and url HREF="https://www.gofundme.com/warmheartsclub" TARGET="_blank" REL="NOFOLLOW"]Go Fund Me campaign, hoping to fulfil some lofty goals from this pint-sized entrepreneur.[br /][br /]"My goal is to make 100 and then for all the people around the country and even the world to make blankets for their community," Peyton said.[br /][br /]She also wants to make a blanket for pop star Taylor Swift's mother, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.[br /][br /]To learn more about the Warm Hearts Club visit the group's Facebook page.
