Notre Dame left guard Alex Bars will miss the rest of the 2015 season after suffering a fractured left ankle in Saturday's 41-31 win over USC, coach Brian Kelly said Sunday.
"Very similar to Malik Zaire's," Kelly said of Bars' injury, referring to the Fighting Irish's starting quarterback who suffered a broken ankle in a Week 2 win at Virginia.
Bars, who will have surgery Sunday, appeared to suffer the injury in the second quarter. The redshirt freshman was making his second straight start in place of Quenton Nelson, who sprained his ankle in an Oct. 3 loss at Clemson.
Nelson came in for Bars on Saturday and is expected to resume starting duties moving forward.
Notre Dame has a bye Saturday before traveling to face Temple on Oct. 31.
