Chicago Fire midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger will captain the MLS All-Star side that takes on Real Madrid after winning a fans' vote.

Schweinsteiger, 32, will line up alongside Tim Howard, Michael Bradley, Kaka, David Villa and others to face European champions Real on Aug. 2.

In a video message posted on his Instagram page, he said: "Hello fans, I want to say thank you for voting me for the MLS All-Star game and also for voting me to be captain for that match. It means a lot for me.

"It's a big match against Real Madrid, I'm really looking forward to it and I hope you're going to see us in one week at Soldier's Field."

The former Germany international has been an important player for Chicago since joining from Manchester United in March, scoring two goals and assisting five more in 16 regular season appearances.

Alongside him on the All-Star will be Chicago coach Veljko Paunovic and teammates Dax McCarty, Nemanja Nikolic and Johan Kappelhof.
