CHICAGO -- Chicago Bearscoach John Fox waited until after the team's preseason debut Thursday night to reveal that No. 1 receiver Alshon Jeffery strained a calf muscle during a recent training camp practice.
Fox made no mention of Jeffery's injured calf after the final practice open to the media on Tuesday. The Bears held a closed walkthrough on Wednesday before traveling to Chicago for the preseason opener.
Jeffery, who missed the Bears' 27-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins, is on crutches and wearing a walking boot to immobilize the injured part of his body.
"He did it in a practice before we came [back to Chicago]," Fox said. "He'll be day to day."
Fox said he is unsure when Jeffery will receive the necessary medical clearance to practice.
"He'll be back in Bourbonnais because he has to get treatment," Fox said. "But I can't [say when he'll back on the practice field]. I'll keep you posted."
Jeffery, 25, caught 85 passes for 1,133 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, becoming the fourth player in franchise history with 1,000 receiving yards in consecutive seasons. He also has eight career 100-yard receiving games.
Jeffery is the second Bears receiver to be sidelined this summer.
Rookie first-round pick Kevin White has been on the PUP list since the beginning of camp because of a shin injury. White jogged on the Soldier Field turf before the Dolphins game but is still not running at full speed.
