The St. Louis Cardinals bolstered their bullpen for the pennant chase, acquiring left-hander Zach Duke from the Chicago White Sox for a minor league outfielder.
Duke has appeared in a league-leading 53 games this season and is 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA. The 33-year-old has struck out 42 in 37 2/3 innings.
The White Sox get 23-year-old outfielder Charlie Tilson. He's batting .282 with four homers, 34 RBIs and 15 stolen bases at Triple-A Memphis.
"Charlie is a LH hitting outfielder whose speed and defensive ability enable him to do a number of things well," White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said in a tweet by the White Sox.
The Cardinals trail the Chicago Cubs by 6.5 games in the NL Central but are tied for the second wild card in the National League.
Duke began his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, as a starter. In six years, he was 45-70 with a 4.54 ERA. He has since spent six years with the Diamondbacks, Nationals, Reds, Brewers and White Sox and has been used almost exclusively as a reliever.
