WASHINGTON -- Chicago Cubs prospect Javier Baez will be out four to eight weeks with a non-displaced fracture in the ring finger after being injured on a steal attempt in the seventh inning of Triple-A Iowa's game against Memphis on Sunday.

Baez was taken to a local hospital where the break was diagnosed.

Baez, via text to ESPNChicago.com, said it was a four-to-eight week injury but that the team would re-evaluate it later this week.

He was the Cubs' top pick in 2011 and spent the second half of last season in the big leagues but failed to make the team out of spring training this year after striking out a combined 225 times between Triple-A and the majors.

He got a late start to his minor league season after the death of his sister but was having a good year at Iowa before the injury, hitting .314 with eight home runs.
