MILWAUKEE -- The Chicago Cubs will activate center fielder Dexter Fowler (hamstring) from the disabled list while adding left-hander Mike Montgomery to the roster on Friday before beginning a series with the Milwaukee Brewers, according to a source.
Montgomery, 26, was acquired from the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday while Fowler has been missing from the lineup since leaving a game on June 18. Pitcher Spencer Patton and outfielder Albert Almora Jr. will be sent to Triple-A Iowa when the Cubs make the moves official.
The Cubs have scored 5.4 runs per game with Fowler in the lineup compared to 4.7 without him, according to ESPN Stats and Information.
