Ex-Notre Dame safety Max Redfield tweets remorse for 'poor decisions'

Hours before his ex-Notre Dame teammates were to take the field for the first time in 2016, former Fighting Irish free safety Max Redfield posted a series of tweets Sunday that seemingly expressed remorse for his August arrest and subsequent dismissal from the football team.

"The love I have for my brothers has never wavered and will never waver regardless of the poor decisions I have made and will make," Redfield wrote in the first in a series of nine tweets.

Redfield, who would have been a senior starter this fall, went on to vow to not be defined by his mistakes, and said that his spirit is with his former team.

Redfield had a not guilty plea entered on his behalf Tuesday after being formally charged Monday with carrying a handgun without a license and possession of marijuana, 10 days after he and four Notre Dame football players were arrested after police stopped them for speeding in Fulton County (Indiana).

The handgun charge against Redfield is a Class A misdemeanor, while the marijuana charge is a Class B misdemeanor.

The four players Redfield was arrested with on Aug. 19 -- sophomore linebacker Te'von Coney, freshman receiver Kevin Stepherson, redshirt freshman cornerback Ashton White and sophomore running back Dexter Williams -- were all charged with possession of marijuana as well.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly dismissed Redfield from the team Aug. 21, adding that the other four players would be subject to internal team discipline.

Those four players traveled with the preseason No. 10 Irish to Austin, Texas, for their season opener Sunday at Texas.
