Former Noles QB Everett Golson 'disappointed' by no combine invite

PHOENIX -- When the NFL scouting combine begins next week in Indianapolis, Everett Golson will be watching it from Arizona.

Golson, a former Notre Dame and Florida State quarterback, was not invited to the combine, which will host 332 prospects this year, according to its website.

"I mean, it is what it is," Golson told ESPN on Tuesday. "I'm disappointed.

"But you take what you get, and you go along with it and try to make the best of it. So that's where I am right now."

Out of the 332 players invited to attend the combine, 18 are listed at quarterback.

Golson has been training at the Fischer Institute in Phoenix. He was a graduate transfer from Notre Dame to Florida State last season and started eight games for the Seminoles, throwing for 1,778 yards and 11 touchdowns to three interceptions.

Golson, who is 6 feet tall and weighs 199 pounds, said he has not received any feedback from NFL teams on his draft stock.

"I haven't talked to anybody," he said. "Right now, my head is just down, focused, ready to go, just trying to do what I can do here to make sure I'm in the best position I'm in."

Golson did not play in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in late December for personal reasons, ending a turbulent college career a game short.

After leading the Irish to the 2013 BCS championship game, Golson was suspended from Notre Dame for the 2013 fall semester for "poor academic judgment" and missed the season. He returned in 2014 and led the Fighting Irish to a 6-0 start and a No. 5 ranking. But Notre Dame struggled in the second half of the season and finished 7-5.

Golson finished his college career with a 24-7 record, a 61.2 percent completion rate, 7,628 yards, 52 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. He also had 546 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns.
