BUILDING ADDITION
$23.7 million addition funded in part from a state grant - no cost to the tax payers
Will be ready at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year
Construction has caused very little disruption to the school day or school calendar
54,000 square feet that bisects the courtyard of the original section of the building
Will include 15 classrooms, 4 chemistry labs, 3 general labs, a STEM lab, a PTLW (Project Lead the Way) engineering lab and a Business Incubator lab.
STEM and PLTW labs designed to promote idea sharing between the programs. Labs will share a machine lab (houses noisier equipment), a locker room, storage area and even a courtyard for outdoor experiments.
STEM lab is for students to define their own research projects and experiments. The free-standing lab will have work tables, chemistry islands, testing equipment, a nanotechnology zone and a "think tank" equipped with advanced audio-visual technology.
Many of the spaces inside the building will be designed as teaching tools to include exposed beams, ductwork and piping. This will allow students to see how structural, mechanical and plumbing systems are integrated into the building
