Jason Bohn complained of chest pains after carding 72 at Honda

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- PGA Tour officials say Jason Bohn suffered a mild heart attack after the second round Friday at the Honda Classic.

The tour says Bohn complained of chest pains after shooting a 2-over 72 and went to see medical staff at PGA National. He was taken by ambulance to Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, where tests revealed a mild heart attack.

Bohn was staying in the hospital overnight until more tests Saturday. He was in stable condition.

Johnson Wagner was in Bohn's group for the first two rounds and told ESPN that Bohn seemed like his normal self both days.

"He played great," Wagner said. "[On the] 17th hole, he hit a shot that was right of the right hole location, carried past the flag but stayed [out of the water]. He leaned back and gave a sigh of 'oh my gosh' relief. ... We were B.S.ing all the last two days like Jason Bohn usually does. Had more fun than I have had in a long time playing golf 'cause he's such a great dude to play golf with."

Wagner said the only talk of health concerns related to Bohn's normal caddie, Mitch Knox, who was not on the bag while tending to his sick mother.

"He was great [on the course]," Wagner said. "I honestly couldn't play with a more fun, better dude. He was himself the whole time."

Bohn told Golfweek earlier in the week that he became ill on the eve of the final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Feb. 13, and was diagnosed with two strains of the flu and bronchitis.

Bohn said he was only playing the Honda in an attempt to qualify for next month's World Golf Championship-Match Play, which features the top 64 players in the world. Bohn is ranked 71st.

"It's one of the two tournaments that I've never played in my career, so it's really high on my radar," Bohn told Golfweek on Wednesday. "The Match Play and the Tour Championship, those are the only two events that I have not had the opportunity to play. I've played in all the other World Golf Championships. It's right there. I'd love to do it, at least once in my career, to say I've played pretty much every event that's out there."

Bohn's wife was home in Atlanta, although her parents were with him at the hospital.

The 42-year-old Bohn is a two-time winner on the PGA Tour. He is among the more popular players and often partners with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
