Josh Sweat, the top-rated overall prospect in the 2015 ESPN 300, was carted off the field Friday night after suffering a serious leg injury while playing for his high school team.
Sweat has been diagnosed with a dislocated left kneecap and will be sidelined indefinitely, sources have confirmed to ESPN.
Sweat, a star defensive end for Oscar Frommel Smith High School in Chesapeake, Virginia, suffered the injury in the second quarter Friday against Western Branch. Oscar Smith coach Richard Morgan reportedly was overcome with emotion when asked about his star player's injury.
"It's hard, but I have 50 other [players on the team]," Morgan told the Virginian-Pilot. "But you have to put it in the back of your mind and finish the game the way Josh would want you to finish the game. All you can do is pray and hope that everything is all right."
The 6-foot-5, 240-pound Sweat had been scheduled for a recruiting trip to Virginia Tech this weekend. He also has made recent visits toFlorida State, Oregon, Georgia and Ohio State.
