Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton heads to disabled list

The Miami Marlins' playoff chances took a hit on Sunday when the team put slugger Giancarlo Stanton on the disabled list with a left groin injury.

The team also put left-hander Adam Conley on the DL with finger tendinitis on his pitching hand.

The Marlins trailed the Cardinals by one-half game for the second wild card entering Sunday's play.

Stanton was injured on Saturday. He made an awkward slide trying to stretch a single into a double in the ninth inning against the White Sox. He was tagged out for the final out of the game and was slow to rise. He finally limped off the field as theChicago White Soxcelebrated an 8-7 victory over Miami on Saturday.

Stanton had a very productive night for the Marlins until that moment with three hits, including his 25th home run of the season and three RBIs.

Conley is 8-6 with a 3.94 ERA in 24 starts this season. The injury is to his left ring finger.

As part of the Stanton and Conley roster moves, the Marlinscalled up infielder Robert Andino, recalled left-hander Hunter Cervenka and released Cody Hall.
