Metal detectors installed at Wrigley Field, renovation set to begin

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Metal detectors have been installed at some entrances to Wrigley Field. Chicago Cubs fans were screened as they came into the stadium for the series with the St. Louis Cardinals this week.

The screenings started on Monday, as part of the league-wide initiative to standardize security procedures at each MLB ballpark during the 2015 season.

Fans were required to remove wallets, keys, mobile phones and other metal objects from their person before going through the detectors and picked them back up afterward. Bags were checked at the door as usual.

There was some confusion among fans who didn't know the change would take effect Monday.

The screenings are not the only changes coming to Wrigley Field. The Cubs' extensive renovation of the Friendly Confines begins at the end of the season. The last home game is scheduled for Wednesday night.

Cubs fans will see a new left-field video board, expanded bleachers and a new right-field sign next season.
