Michael Vick gave the Steelers reason to feel good about their backup quarterback situation.
In his Steelers debut Saturday against the Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park, New York, Vick completed 4 of 5 passes for 106 yards. The Steelers signed Vick on Tuesday night to replace injured Bruce Gradkowski after working him out in Pittsburgh.
Vick, 35, a 12-year NFL veteran, threw a 63-yard bomb to Martavis Bryant on his first attempt as a Steeler. He took over for Ben Roethlisberger, who finished 2-of-4 for 30 yards.
The pass to Bryant got the Steelers into scoring range, but Vick later took a sack and the offense faltered.
In other Steelers news, kicker Garrett Hartley left the game with a hamstring injury. The team signed Hartley to a one-year deal after kicker Shaun Suisham tore his ACL in the first week of the preseason.
After the game, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin didn't sound optimistic about Hartley's hamstring, which he injured on a first-half kickoff.
"It didn't look good," said Tomlin, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "We have to MRI him, but it didn't look positive in terms of the opener."
This means the Steelers could be looking for their third kicker in a month, combing the free-agent waters for such players as Billy Cundiff and Jay Feely.
