French club Nantes are trying to secure the transfer of Chicago Fire forward David Accam before Europe's summer transfer window closes on Wednesday, sources told ESPN FC.

The Fire have been trying to re-sign the fleet-footed Ghana international for several weeks but the Ligue 1 side have offered over $3 million for the player, the sources said.

Accam's contract is guaranteed through next season (with a team option for 2018) and a Fire spokesman declined to comment on whether they would match the offer.

ESPN's Taylor Twellman first reported Nantes' interest in Accam on Wednesday morning.

Accam, 25, has six caps (one goal) for the Black Stars since his 2014 debut.

He arrived in Chicago in early 2015 after stints with clubs in England and Sweden and has made 41 MLS appearances.

He has scored 17 goals, 10 of them this season, but Chicago have struggled mightily during his stay, finishing last among the league's 20 clubs in 2015 and on pace to do the same again this year.

If the deal goes through, it would be the second time this month Nantes have done business with an MLS side.

Les Canaris sold U.S. national team midfielder Alejandro Bedoya to the Philadelphia Union on Aug. 3.
