New England Revolution beat Chicago Fire to reach U.S. Open Cup final

The New England Revolution are heading to the U.S. Open Cup final after beating the Chicago Fire 3-1 in the first semifinal on Tuesday.

Kei Kamara started the scoring for New England, converting from the penalty spot in the 16th minute afterRodrigo Ramos tripped Kelyn Rowe in the box.

Kamara continued to be dangerous throughout the opening 45 minutes, nearly deflecting a Matt Lampson clearance into the goal and twice playing Teal Bunbury into scoring positions for naught.

Chicago found an equalizer in the 39th minute when a deflected pass ended up at the feet of David Accam who zigged and zagged in front of the Revolution goal before slotting a right-footed shot home.

The Fire were unfortunate to concede minutes later, however, after Kamara's headed attempt from a corner took a very unlucky deflection for Chicago and wound up on the head ofJe-Vaughn Watson to put New England up 2-1 at the break.

Chicago was nearly back on level terms in the 56th minute, as an inswingingArturo Alvarez cross reachedMichael de Leeuw at the far post, but his right-footed effort sailed up and over the crossbar.

Rowe was in on goal in the 61st minute following a chip over the top of the Chicago defense, but his right-footed blast from 18 yards out went high and right of Lampson's goal.

With the match nearing full-time, Bunbury put the match to rest singlehandedly, blasting a left-footed shot from 20 yards out to beat Lampson and make the score 3-1.

New England will play the winner of Wednesday's other semifinal where the LA Galaxy host FC Dallas (10 p.m. ET on ESPN2).
