SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame basketball coach Mike Brey has hired former Fighting Irish guard Ryan Ayers as an assistant coach.

Ayers is the second former Irish player joining Brey's staff in a week, joining Ryan Humphrey, who was named an assistant last week. They replace Martin Ingelsby, who left to become Delaware's head coach, and Anthony Solomon, who left for an assistant's job at Georgetown.

Ayers was a captain on the 2008-09 team that finished 21-15 and ranks fourth on the school's all-time list for career 3-point shooting percentage (.424) and 11th in 3-point field goals made (170).

Ayers was an assistant coach at Bucknell the past two seasons as the Bison earned trips to the National Invitational Tournament. His father, Randy Ayers, is an assistant coach for the New Orleans Pelicans.
