Notre Dame starts Ian Book over injured Brandon Wimbush at QB

Notre Damesophomore Ian Book got the start at quarterback becauseBrandon Wimbushcontinues to recover from a right foot injury, and the Fighting Irish recorded a 31-10 win overNorth Carolinaon Saturday.

Wimbush, who was listed as a game-day decision, experienced soreness in his foot after last week's game against Miami (Ohio) and underwent an MRI, which revealed no structural or ligament damage. Heparticipated in practice Thursday after sitting out earlier in the week.

Earlier this week, coach Brian Kelly said Book, who entered Saturday with only eight pass attempts and five rushes this season, "knows the offense pretty good."

Book went 17-of-31 for 146 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in Saturday's win. He also added 45 yards rushing on 12 carries.

Wimbush has 402 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 68 carries and has completed 52.3 percent of his passes for 782 yards, with six touchdowns and two interceptions.

The 21st-ranked Irish (5-1) have a bye next week before taking on USC On Oct. 21.
