SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame cornerback Shaun Crawfordis out for the season after suffering a torn left Achilles tendonin Saturday's 39-10 win over Nevada, Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly said.
Crawford, a sophomore, was injured in the first quarter while breaking up a deep pass on the No. 18 Fighting Irish's first defensive series. He left the field on crutches.
Crawford was expected to start at nickelback last season as a true freshman, but he tore an ACL during fall camp, costing him the season. He started at corner the first two games this season and starred last week at Texas in his debut, coming up with an interception and returning a blocked extra point for a two-point score.
Losing Crawford is another huge hit to the Notre Dame secondary, which dismissed starting free safety Max Redfield last month after his arrest and subsequent misdemeanor drug and gun charges.
