Oliver Suero, Telvin Nash suspended for violating drug policy

NEW YORK -- Free-agent pitcher Oliver Suero has been suspended 72 games and Chicago White Sox first baseman Telvin Nash for 50 games under baseball's minor league drug program.

The suspensions were announced Friday. The commissioner's office says Suero tested positive for Stanozolol, a performance-enhancing substance, while Nash tested positive for amphetamine, a banned stimulant.

Suero, a righty from the Dominican Republic, was briefly in the Washington Nationals' organization.

Nash, 25, hit .255 with 11 homers and 38 RBIs in 46 games with the Single-A Winston-Salem Dash of the Carolina League this season.

There have been 73 suspensions this year under the minor league drug program and 13 under the major league program.
