CHICAGO -- The Texas Rangersactivated outfielder Ryan Rua from the 60-day disabled list.
They sent right-hander Anthony Ranaudo back to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday -- a day after he delivered a strong spot start -- and called up left-hander Alex Claudio from the minor league club to provide bullpen help. They also designated outfielder Jake Smolinski for assignment.
Rua batted sixth and played left field Friday night against the Chicago White Sox, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in a 2-1 Rangers win.
Rua started the first five games of the season and was hitting.235 before he was injured fielding a ball against Houston on April 10.
Ranaudo pitched 6 scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday. The Rangers lost 1-0 on a balk by Keone Kela with a runner on third and two outs in the ninth.
