CHICAGO -- A shortage of working bathrooms at Wrigley Field on Sunday night created long lines at the functional facilities that annoyed fans throughout the ballpark.

"Downstairs was already [crowded], so upstairs, being out further, complicated the issue and led to longer wait times," a spokesman said after theChicago Cubslost 3-0 to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Wrigley Field will be under construction over the next five years, causing both foreseen and unforeseen inconveniences.

Two upper-deck bathrooms were temporarily out of service on Sunday, causing massive lines in the lower-deck areas.

"With 35,000 fans showing up in the ballpark tonight, we were simply not prepared to handle guests during peak periods," the spokesman said. "We have high standards for service, and we missed the mark. We want to apologize to our fans for the inconvenience tonight."

The Cubs say they plan on bringing in portable units to help ease the crowds near the lower-deck bathrooms.
