DENVER -- Right-hander Gonzalez Germen, claimed off waivers earlier this week from the Chicago Cubs, was called up by the Colorado Rockies and scheduled to start Friday night's game against the Atlanta Braves.

The Rockies also placed right-hander David Hale on the 15-day disabled list. Hale pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief Thursday against Atlanta before leaving with a left groin strain.

In other moves, the Rockies selected left-hander Aaron Laffey to the major league roster and optioned right-handed pitcher Scott Oberg to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Germen, set for his first career start, made six appearances with the Cubs this season and was 0-0 with a 7.50 ERA. He last pitched a week ago for Triple-A Iowa, where he was 5-1 with a 3.78 ERA in 24 relief appearances.

Laffey, signed to a minor league contract last November, appeared in 19 games with Triple A Albuquerque, including five starts, and was 2/3 with a 4.91 ERA.

To make room for Laffey on the 40-man roster, the club recalled left-handed pitcher Tyler Anderson and placed him on the 60-day disabled list. Anderson, who has not made an appearance this season, is recovering from a stress fracture in his left elbow.
