Brazil legend Ronaldo wants to keep his record as the World Cup's leading goalscorer -- and is hoping that Germany attacker Mirsolav Klose encounters some bad luck during the tournament.

Ronaldo, 37, is just one goal ahead of Klose as the tournament's all-time top marksman. He hit 15 goals in three World Cups, one more than Germans Gerd Mueller and Klose.

Klose has said breaking Ronaldo's record is one of his main aims in Brazil -- and speaking at the opening of the "fan fest" in Fortaleza, where Germany take on Ghana on June 21, Ronaldo asked Brazil fans for some help.

"I have one big favour to ask of you because Germany play here. Please cast a tiny spell on Klose. That would be good," he said.

"I will pray with all my powers that Klose does not break the record. Klose's advantage is that he still plays. But he won't erase my career."

On Friday, Klose wrote his name in the history books when he eclipsed Mueller as Germany's all-time leading goalscorer by hitting his 69th for his country in a 2-2 draw against Cameroon.

But in quotes reported by Die Welt, he said: "I will never be mentioned in one breath as Gerd Mueller."
