Stanley Cup etiquette
To hoist? Or not to hoist?

CHICAGO (WLS) -- To hoist? Or not to hoist? That is the question.

As the Stanley Cup made its way across town Friday night, singer Dierks Bentley hoisted it over his head. Some Blackhawks fans are calling foul. A few took to Twitter, letting the country music star know tradition dictates only those who won the cup can raise it above their heads.

@stronghill15 tweeted: I love you man, but you don't lift that thing over your head unless you earned it.

Bentley responded: "dear robert, @DuncanKeith handed it to me. . . got a problem, talk to him."

Earlier this month, one of the men who carries the title "Keeper of the Cup" told the Chicago Tribune there is an etiquette associated with hockey's most prized possession. "It's Bolt's job to ensure the safety of the Cup and make sure fans follow one simple rule. They can touch the Cup, kiss it, drink from it (but only if a player is holding it) and take photos with it, but they aren't allowed to lift it over their heads. That is reserved for players who have won it and the occasional friend or family member," the Tribune reported.

Since the Hawks won Monday night, The Cup has been spotted all across town, including at Wrigley Field, West Town nightclubs, and the western suburbs. This weekend it'll be at Cellular Field.
