Top Irish receiver Torii Hunter Jr. out with concussion

Notre Dame will enter its home opener without its top receiver, as Torii Hunter Jr.will miss the No. 18 Fighting Irish's game Saturday against Nevadadue to a concussion.

The school announced Saturday morning that Hunter is out.

Hunter absorbed a hit to the head in the end zone late in the third quarter of Notre Dame's 50-47 loss Sunday at Texas. No flags were thrown or reviews held despite Hunter being tended to on the field for several minutes.

A redshirt junior captain, Hunter entered 2016 as the Irish's only proven option in the receiving game, having caught 35 passes for 428 yards and three touchdowns the past two seasons. The son of the former MLB outfielder by the same name, Hunter was second on the Irish in catches against the Longhorns despite missing the fourth quarter and overtime, having caught four passes for 37 yards and a touchdown.
