DETROIT -- Chicago White Sox rookie Charlie Tilson recorded a base-hit in his first major-league bat but it went downhill from there in the 23-year-old outfielder's debut against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on Tuesday.
Tilson had to be helped off the field after straining his left hamstring while attempting to run down Miguel Cabrera's double to right center field in the bottom of the fifth inning.
He was replaced in the game by Avisail Garcia, with Adam Eaton shifting to center field.
Tilson's call-up prior to Chicago's series against Detroit came after he was traded to the White Sox from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for reliever Zach Duke prior to Monday's trade deadline.
