Legendary former Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer won't be making the trip to South Bend to watch his Hokies take on Notre Dame on Saturday, and his reason will surprise you.
The game is not as exciting as we once thought it would be, but Beamer's decision to not make the trip has nothing to do with Virginia Tech's 30-20 loss to Georgia Tech last week. Notre Dame's 4-6 record isn't a factor, either.
What is his reason? Beamer is serving as judge and guest motivational speaker at this weekend's 2017 Miss Virginia USA and Miss Virginia Teen USA State Pageant, Dan Steinberg of The Washington Post reported.
Virginia Tech football's official Twitter account revealed Beamer's interesting weekend plans with this tweet:
Steinberg confirmed the news withKim Nicewonder, the executive director of the Miss Virginia USA and Miss Virginia Teen USA State Pageant.
"He is actually giving the girls a pep talk, like he would do the football players in the locker room," Nicewonder told Steinberg.
Beamer will give the beauty pageant contestants a pep talk on stage before they compete the final night. He will also be asked questions on stage and will hand out trophies.
