Adams Street Bridge closed for 13 months, detours in place

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Adams Street Bridge is closed for construction for the next 13 months. Detours are in place.

Westbound vehicle and bicycle traffic is being diverted to Wacker where drivers can go south to Van Buren or north to Madison to continue westbound across the river. Once across the river, they should use Jefferson (from Van Buren) or Clinton (from Madison) to return to Adams.

There are also two new signed pick-up and drop-off areas for Union Station passengers on Jackson or on Adams, both between Canal and Clinton.

Seven CTA bus routes will be affected: #1 Bronzeville/Union Station, #7 Harrison, #28 Stony Island, #121 Union/Streeterville Express, #126 Jackson, #151 Sheridan and #156 LaSalle.

Pedestrian access over the bridge to Union Station will stay open most of the time. Two 30-day closures are scheduled for later this year. Intermittent closures should also be expected.

Officials said of the locations tracked by the Chicago Department of Transportation, the Adams Street Bridge walkway is one of the busiest.
