HINSDALE, Ill. (WLS) -- A Metra Burlington Northern Santa Fe train struck an SUV near the Hinsdale station, causing major delays on the BNSF line Monday morning.
The outbound train struck a 2004 Nissan Murano near the Lincoln Crossing around 7:20 a.m. Monday. Police said the 53-year-old female driver managed to exit the car before the collision. No one was injured in the crash.
Police said the Burbank resident disobeyed the warning signals and stopped after the gate line, in the path of the train. The incident remains under investigation.
Earlier Monday morning, a freight train struck a bridge near 26th Street and Cicero Avenue in the west suburb of Cicero. Just as the Metra BNSF line recovered from delays caused by the freight train incident, the crash occurred in Hinsdale.
Metra BNSF trains were halted at the time of the accident and operated more than an hour behind schedule for a majority of the morning on Monday.
