CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two of Chicago's busiest bus routes are about to get a boost.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and CTA President Dorval Carter are expected to announce express service on the #9 Ashland and #49 Western bus routes.

The service will offer limited stops, roughly every half mile, to save up to 22 minutes of travel on each route, city officials said.

The new routes will run during the morning and afternoon rush periods.

These are the same routes that were canceled in 2010 because of a lack of funding.
