CICERO, Ill. (WLS) -- Metra BNSF riders saw major delays after a freight train struck a bridge near Cicero Avenue and 26th Street in Cicero.
Debris from the damaged freight train blocked all tracks after the accident occurred around 5 a.m. Monday. Clean-up crews cleared the tracks and moved the freight train about a mile away to make room for track repairs.
Service was suspended for the entire BNSF line for about an hour before trains began operating on a single track.
Later Monday morning, a Metra BNSF train struck a car near the Hinsdale station. The accident halted service in both directions for nearly an hour. Trains operated over an hour behind schedule for a majority of the morning.
