Ground stop ends, delays continue at O'Hare, Midway due to equipment outage

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Flights in to Chicago's airports briefly came to a halt on Monday afternoon due to equipment outages, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Both O'Hare and Midway international airports were affected, according to the FAA website. Delays and cancellations are expected to follow.

Planes could be seen lining up on the tarmac at O'Hare around 4:30 p.m. Chicago aviation officials said planes started easing back into schedule.

Chicago's airports are already taxed due to a fire at the FAA Aurora facility on Friday, September 26. Brian Howard, 36, is charged destruction of aircraft or aircraft facility.

The Aurora facility handles high-altitude communications, so that traffic was transferred to other nearby facilities.
