Local state of emergency declared in Whiting due to storm damage

WHITING, Ind. (WLS) -- A local state of emergency has been declared in Whiting, Ind. as a result of Friday's storms.

Winds topping 70 miles per hour and 20 foot waves caused major damage to the city's lakefront.

Crews will barricade off unsafe areas and the lakefront park will be closed until repairs can be made.
